Our 2nd Season

We’re coming back from our summer break with some exciting concerts in the works for our second season! More exciting announcements to come about some of the composers we’re working with this season (including composer-double bassist prodigy Florent Ghys, composer-vocalist Derek Piotr, and a collaboration with performance duo SlashSound). Before we do that, we’re running a pre-season appeal to help fund our commissioning activities for 2016-2017.

Part of commissioning new works is a fair fee for the composer; this is where YOU come in! We could only make this new music happen through the support of contemporary music lovers like you. By making a tax-deductible donation to Echo Chamber, you help our emerging ensemble work with some of the most talented composers of the 21st century, allowing us to bring their music to new ears through concerts in New York City and beyond.

We make no secret of the fact that we love contemporary music; join us in bringing new works by composers we truly believe in to life! We offer some modest perks for supporting Echo Chamber; check them out on the support page.

Fractured Atlas!

Big news—Echo Chamber is now fiscally-sponsored by Fractured Atlas. Beyond providing some behind-the-scenes support, we’re now able to accept tax-deductible donations to support our commissioning and performing activities. We aim to pay all of our composers a fair commission fee, and we aim to bring their music to as many places as possible. Through workshops, free public performances, as well as the concert hall, our main goal is to bring New Music to as many people as we possibly can, making the music accessible while challenging audiences with unfamiliar sounds. We rely on our friends like you to help us make it happen!

Please check out our new Support page, where you can find information about making donations to Echo Chamber. You’ll be helping bring new contemporary music by young composers to the world, and you’ll have our deepest gratitude!

Crowd Control

Hello internet! Things have been quiet on the blog since we funded our Kickstarter campaign earlier this year, raising over $3300 from more than 50 individual backers. We’re incredibly thankful for everybody’s generosity in pledging to support our project, as well as for spreading the word. The four commissioned composers—Brooks Frederickson, Matt Frey, Molly Joyce, and Pascal Le Boeuf—have all turned in their pieces, and we’ve been hard at work over the past 6 weeks learning their notes and rhythms. All the composers have also stopped by our rehearsals to hear their works in progress, and we’ve been planning some exciting (top-secret) projects that will stem from these pieces. Keep your eyes peeled!

The result of this Kickstarter campaign will be the final concert of our first season in existence, which we’re calling Crowd Control. The program will feature the world premieres of the new works funded by Kickstarter, as well as two commissioned pieces that we premiered earlier this year at Pulsing & Shaking 2016, at NYU: BIRDS, by Gemma Peacocke; and Light Echo, by me, Kyle Tieman-Strauss. The concert will be on May 20 at the DiMenna Center, Benzaquen Hall, at 7:30p. We can’t wait to see you there and celebrate the fantastic new works you helped bring into the world!

PS, here’s a fun photo from our performance on Pulsing & Shaking, where we premiered the aforementioned works, as well as played two works from our repertoire by Florent Ghys and Angélica Negrón.
